Scott Colborn

Guitar - (402) 434-7454

Scott Colborn has been teaching guitar for 15 years, 4 of them at Dietze, and playing for over 45 years. He has played in rock and blues bands all his life. Scott uses several specific guitar methods including the "Hal Leonard Guitar Method Complete Edition: Books 1 - 3" (with CD's) by Will Schmidt and Greg Koch, the "Guitar Chord Encyclopedia" by Manus and Hall, and the "Passantino Guitar Manuscript" book (spiral-bound). Students receive many additional printed hand-outs from Scott such as modes, scales, power chords, famous guitar riffs, hand/finger exercises, complete songs, etc. Scott says, “One of my gifts is that I can hear a song and then show the student what the guitar player is playing and how to do it. As we progress in learning to play guitar, the student is welcome to bring CD's or their iPod of favorite music and we can work on a favorite song. Stump the guitar teacher? I love it - bring it on! I love playing and teaching guitar. The goal for my students is to be able to have fun and enjoy playing guitar and to help them find the music inside themselves and bring that out. From an absolute beginner with no knowledge of music, to a guitar player who has played for years but feels they are in a rut - I enjoy the opportunity of working with a variety of people. I help my students read and understand guitar tablature, and I use a fun and easy-to-understand method to help the student read music, so that he/she will be able to play in a school or church band, or with friends. Additionally I assist my students so that they can improvise around a set of chords, feeling confident that they can take a stage and play a solo if they wish. My students range in age from 8 to 80 and I have multiple members of families as students, and continue to receive referrals from present and former students. I require my students to do homework as I assign it for their particular needs, and to practice guitar 30 - 60 minutes each day.” When he isn’t teaching, Scott enjoys reading, movies, bowling, good conversation, and good food. Scott’s family includes his daughter Melissa, son Asher and Mac the good dog. He usually has a guitar close by.
